DIY inspiration for us all!

Just a quick post from me tonight guys as Im all curled up with the other half, watching some more Band of Brothers. Last night I couldn't sleep so went in search of some DIY tutorials I could try. So many of us bloggers want to try more DIY stuff this year so I though I would share my find.

And boy did I find, first check out Threadbanger. They have great tutorials and DIY ideas for your wardrobe and your home! Plus the forums are jam packed with creative people, ideas and encouraging talk! They also have a you tube channel with lots of videos and easy tutorials. I am so trying the home screen printing ideas, I've been trying to work out how to do this for a while because I loved screen printing in school for my Art GCSE. Expect to see some nice printed T's in the future.

I also found OutsaPop blog which is full of some amazing and creative DIY's and ways to recycle garments. (Photos belong to OutsaPop blog)
And lastly I found Chic Steals blog. Who has done a round up of all her DIY tutorials from 2009 and boy has she been busy. Some of her ideas are truly brilliant.

Hope you are all inspired to be extra creative and frugal this year!

Don't forget to check out my giveaway for an awesome Audrey Hepburn print from The Canvas House, who sent me a beautiful dainty locket pin brooch as a thank you for hosting this giveaway. (shall get some pics of it tomorrow for you all to see)

What I did with my first day of my week off

So today I start my blissful week off from the pub, yippee. It is well deserved after working so many hours on the lead up to the holidays. So today I slept in late (really late!), watched some Buffy (season 2), Band of Brothers (episode 1 and 2) and Top Gear, had a Pizza delivered for tea and made this:
Ive been playing with ideas of what I wanted to do with the bow since I picked some up in Primark (only 5op each). I have 2 white, 2 deep purple and 2 black to play with as well as 2 heavily chained gold necklaces (£1 each). I finally decided this was the best design. And I am so pleased with how it turned out! What do you think. The bow has a brooch pin on the back and the necklace chain can be detached so it can be used as a brooch as well as a necklace. I intend to do the same with the black and purple only with different coloured beads and silver chains. Would anyone buy one of these if I listed them in my shop (which you can find here) because I'm thinking of taking a trip to Primark to pick up some more bows, if they have any more there!

Thats all I really have to say for today as I have no outfit post as I have not got dresses all day! lol!

Oh but don't forget to enter my Audrey Hepburn competition here as it will be ending on Thursday night!

Xmas presents and shopping outfit

Thought I would show you some of my xmas presents because I haven't really been up to anything exciting the last few days, due to long shifts in the pub (last shift tonight, then a whole blissful week off!! Yay)
This was a yummy gift set off the other half's Dad and step mom.
My parents bought us this awesome clock for the flat as we don't have one on the wall (even after 4 years here!)
I bought this painting for Jon from an awesome little stand in a flea market in Canada. Only $10 and it is brilliantly done and really big. It is his all time favourite character and luckily I'm a massive film buff so don't mind stuff like this in the flat. Just need to get it framed now.
The newest Whimsie to my collection. Trusty from the Lady and the Tramp. I got it off my sis.
And here is a quick pic of my entire collection, which is now too big for my what knot. Will have to scour the carboots for a new one.
And my total fav item. A tiny vintage brooch of a pair of legs! How awesome is that!
Ok on to my outfit that I wore to go do some item returning/exchanging.

Jumper: Tesco (I had this 2 christmas's ago off Jon's parents and it is still my fav jumper even though it has a moth hole in the back, I love cashmere!)
Skirt: TKMaxx
Socks: Primark (new! I love the little bow!)
Shoes: George at ASDA (new for xmas)
Belt: New Look
Hairband: Random store in Canada
Bangles: left - market in benidorm. right - Vintage

Am gonna tackle my new camera this week so you might all get some nice shots of cardiff. Plus I'm gonna work out my sewing machine too! New cushion covers here I come!

I have also set up a blog shop, which you can find here. I will be selling new and vintage clothing as well as handmade items by me and my mum!

Don't forget to enter my Audrey Hepburn Competition here.

Audrey Giveaway!

Happy New Year my lovely lovely ladies! If you are reading this before midday 'Well Done' for making it out of bed! If you are reading this after midday, I guess you had a good night last night! lol! Hope no one is suffering too badly from last nights indulgence. I in fact have not posted this this morning, I scheduled it a few days ago. hehe! I am probably still in bed! But I am starting this New Year as I mean to go on! I promised you a lovely giveaway so here it is.

Put your hands in the air if you love Audrey, come on who doesn't!! This 7x5 Black and White print is my first giveaway of 2010. Don't you just love it!
For the month of January I am going to focus on welsh etsy shops and designers, as I am very proud to be Welsh! As always the etsy sellers have agreed to offer a prize and answer my questions. So here is my interview with the wonderful Elisabeth from "The Canvas House' and some pictures of her items!

1. Whats your name and where do you come from?
My name is Elisabeth. I live in Cefn Coed, Merthyr Tydfil, South Wales. A stones throw away from the beautiful Brecon Beacons.
2. How long have you been making your designs?
I have been 'crafting it' for the past 3 years and have enjoyed every minute.
3. Why did you name your shop 'The Canvas House'?
I wanted to keep the title of this particular etsy shop simple and decided that thecanvashouse fitted the bill.
4. Whats your favourite materials to work with?
My favourite material to work with are beads of any description, colour and size. The sparklier the better. I have collected quite a lot of them over the past 3 years and have found an additional passion in all vintage jewellery. My husband tells me I like everything!
5. Of your items which is your favourite?
My favourite item at thecanvashouse has to be Audrey in purple as I love the colour of it.
6. Where do you get your inspiration for your designs and also their names?
I love colour and decided to produce an alternative range of simple but classic pop art images to match up to individuals personal decor and tastes.
7. Do you have any formal training or did this start as a hobby?
I am a nurse by trade and like lots of other etsy sellers I design and craft as a hobby.
8. Do you have any favourite etsy shops which you buy from?
There are so many great etsy shops that I have either bought from or I want to own their products. I did treat myself to a fantastic 'twilight' bag from stitchandswash this year when I celebrated a big birthday. Little did I know I would have to pay a not unsubstantial amount of extra money due to the custom charges. It was however well worth it!!
9. whats your dream for 2010?
My dream would be to have the best of both worlds. Pretty much what I have at the moment actually but with a little bit of tweaking!
10 (random question I ask everyone) whats you favourite flower?
The easiest question of all! It's a daffodil, the brightest and sunniest of all flowers.

The same rules apply as before.
  • You must be a follower (please tell me how you are following so I can check)
  • You must visit The Canvas House and comment on here as to what is your favourite item
Extra entries may be gained by
  • Hearting your favourite item

  • Blogging/Twittering/Facebooking this giveaway (1 entry each)
