The stunning Audrey Hepburn of course.
Well obviously that wasn't why I got so annoyed, she would have been my choice for number 1 too!
But lets see what you ladies think of this...
The top 10 most beautiful women were voted as:
1. Audrey Hepburn
2. Cheryl Cole
Now I'm sure you can see why I got so miffed! Who in God's name did QVC ask! Granted all these women are beautiful, but to be voted in the top 10 most beautiful women of the 20th century! Most annoying Cheryl Cole/Tweedy getting number 2! Really! I'm very sorry she may be lovely but she ain't that beautiful and she has cosmetic surgery, hair extensions, fake tan, make-up and Photoshop on her side unlike the true beauty of Audrey, Marilyn and Grace Kelly. The people they asked clearly didn't have that greater knowledge of women in history or outside our culture either! And it's so annoying! She is a 'flash in the pan' celebrity who's memory and beauty will never outlive the likes of Audrey. I would love to hold a vote of fashion/beauty bloggers (people who do understand style and beauty!) to see who they would choose for the top 10 (in fact I may well do this!)
Obviously this is a personal choice thing and you may all disagree with me. But if this was down to me I would probably remove Cheryl, Jolie, Johansson, Diana and Aniston from the top 10. Like I said they are beautiful but not the most beautiful of the last century. There are so many other women which could have been featured in it. Here are just a few ladies I would have considered more beautiful than half the women in the list.
Aishwarya RaiSandra Bullock
Sophia Loren
Penelope Cruz
Heidi Klum
I agree with the choise of the three classic beauties - Audrey, Marilyn and Grace. However I totally agree that Vivien Leigh and Elizabeth Taylor should be in there too!
ReplyDeleteI do think that Angelina Jolie (depending on the photo) does deserve to be in there. She looked amazing in Changeling.
However, there are so many beautiful people, I don;t hink it could be narrowed down to only ten!
I think often there is confusion between the notions of beauty and 'pretty-ness' sometimes..
Thanks for the Betty Jackson tip!

Audrey Hepburn, def. the most beautiful! xxx
ReplyDeleteI agree audrey hepburn would be my first choice. i guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder. : )
ReplyDeleteI understand why you're annoyed, I agree with you. Cheryll Cole shouldn't be in that list.
ReplyDeleteHi Darling Daisy! 3 of my top beauties are: Charlotte Rampling, Lauren Bacall & Catherine Deneuve
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for voting! I'm nervous bc it's so so close!
ReplyDeleteI think they should have stuck to classics too. I def don't like that Cheryl girl. Jolie is okay to me bc I think she has an interesting face. I don't get the huff about Johanssen or Aniston. At least Halle is a woman of color! But I would have loved to see more.
Anyway, it probably would have been better to separate classic beauties from modern ones!
I guess in the US no one really knows who Cheryl Cole is! However when it comes to top beauties of the 20th century, I think more iconic beauties come to mind rather than temporary celebs. I definitely think Angelina Jolie is beautiful, both on the outside and inside (through her humanitarian contributions). I agree with many of your selections, like Rita Hayworth and Elizabeth Taylor. As for the top, I'd probably pick at least Audrey and Grace (gosh it's hard to narrow it down!).
ReplyDeleteI kind of agree with Scarlett, I think she's so pretty :) But yah - lets go outside the box people!! I totally agree with Penelope too
ReplyDeleteMy top 3 are:
ReplyDelete(1) Audrey Hepburn
(2) Grace Kelly
(3) Elizabeth Taylor
Their beauty is eternal!
I totally agree with you! The twentieth century was pretty big, folks... It encapsulated more than just the 90s!
