Events - Lunacy Boutique 'Filmology' Fashion Show
Held at The Towers Hotel in Swansea all the guests were treated to a cupcake on arrival and a goodie bag with vouchers for Lara Johnson and Lunacy Boutique itself. Lara Johnson’s team (winner’s of the British Hairdresser of the Year) was also the amazing talent behind all the make up and hairstyles on the models walking the catwalk.
The Lunacy Annual Charity Show, now in it’s 6th year, choses a different theme each year, this years was ‘Filmology’. The show was split in to 4 separate sections, each based on a different film: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Saturday Night Fever, Kill Bill and Four Weddings and a Funeral. The clothing and jewellery were from the Lunacy Boutiques store in Port Talbot or their online store. The hats and fascinators, which featured in the ‘Four Weddings and a Funeral’ section, were made by Welsh Milliner Kate McKenny. Plus the flowers used were by ‘The Flower Box’ from Forge Road.
This fun packed show was full of music (and props!) from each of the films, and in all honesty was like no other catwalk show I had ever seen before. The models danced their way down the catwalk in styles reminiscent of each of the musical tracks.
The ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ show was all sugary sweet, with cute bright dresses, girly tops and skirts, sweetie inspired jewellery and candy coloured hair.
The ‘Saturday Night Fever’ show was all about the big hair and bright make up! Think fur jackets, flares and corduroy, and seriously retro print dresses!
‘Kill Bill’ was all sexy and strong. Their harsh hair and make up was reminiscent of Uma Thurman herself. The clothing was bold and eye-catching and the jewellery featured speech bubbles in the style of comic books.
(I want that jumper!)
Finally ‘Four Weddings and a Funeral’ started all depressing and sombre with a show of little black dresses and veiled fascinators and ended on a high or beautiful prom gowns and even a modern wedding dress!
The primary reason for the event was of course to help raise funds and awareness of Ty Olwen Hospice and Ovacome and the research it is involved in. With the sales of the tickets for the event and for the amazing raffle they had (plus for the popcorn that was on sale) I hope I can say that the event was a huge success and helped raise a significant amount of money for the two charities.
