Inspiration Monday

It's Monday! So it's Inspiration Monday and this week I have actually had time to take an outfit shot. To see all the other lovely ladies, hop on over to Two Birds Blog and check them out.
This week they chose a great outfit shot of Emma Stone.

This is my take on the outfit. I had this dress for my birthday, although it didn't look quite as pink in the catalogue. But I love it anyway! Ha, me, in pink! lol!
I did want to pair it with my grey ankle boots but I can't find them anywhere?!?! So black boots woudl have to do, and it's all kinda rainy here at the moment, so they worked out better.
Dress: Tesco
Jacket: Dorothy Perkins
Boots: Unbranded
Bag: Vintage via Etsy
Plus now I am able to tell you all my good news!
I have finally (thank God!!) gotten myself a internship with a local magazine. I am on a 2 month trial (so keep you fingers crossed for me!) and if the 2 months go well then it will be extended to a year and I will hopefully get a job at the end of it. Yay! But it means I have to work 9-5 mon-fri practically unpaid and still work in the pub to be able to live. It will all be worth it in the end though hopefully!

What are you spending your Monday doing? We are going to be driving back from the wedding today and hopefully by-passing bournemouth beach on the way.

My Birthday Loot

Just thought I would show you all my b'day present (minus one which will be in an outfit picture tomorrow) As I am on a shopping ban, part of my present from my parents was to go shopping for some nice new things. I bought both the pieces of clothing and a little ring. I thought I would show you all my other prezzies too.
Skirt: TKMaxx £24
Dress: Dorothy Perkins £39
Leopard print hair bow from my neighbours
Patterned Tight, floral scarf and cream fabric and chain necklace from my parents
You can't really see the ring, but it's a wire wrap heart from Dorothy Perkins that I bought on my b'day shopping trip
The little necklace is a telephone from my sister
The cream bracelet and ring are from my friend Rachel
Earrings and Ring from Miso at Republic from my Sister
Pocket watch necklace and Padora style bracelet from my parents
The King's Speech and Black Swan Blu-ray's off my Hubby
And tickets for Avenue Q!! Yay!!
Jimmy Choo Perfume from my Aunty Mags in Canada.
I usually don't like designer's who bring out perfume, but I smelt this in a magazine and just fell in love with it, so pretty!

A few weeks ago I got a voucher sent to me from Shop It To me website to spend in any Arcadia store, so I got to spend it in Outlook (as they always have the best sales).
I bought these.
All from Diva at Miss Selfridge
Ring £2.50
Earrings £2.00
Necklace £3.00

We are in a wedding today of one of our college friends, so I should be able to post some pretty pictures soon. I am going to wear one of the Fever dresses I was given by Fever for doing their collection review. Keep your fingers crossed for good weather for us. The wedding is in Bournemouth right on the beach front so it should be beautiful.

Friend Friday: Haircare

Hello Ladies, I am back after my little birthday break.
I know it's Friend Friday but first I would like to announce the winner of my $25 Alex Keller voucher...drumroll please....

Entry Number 107

Oh, My Darling said...

Hearted the white lies - vintage skeleton key necklace

CONGRATULATIONS!!! I shall be emailing with details shortly.

So onto this week's Friend Friday

This weeks topic is Haircare. As usual nip on over to Modly Chic to see all the other wonderful ladies answers.

Here are mine:

How often do you get your hair cut?
Well that depends on the style. When I had my reclining bob I had to have it cut every 6-8 weeks. But as I am trying to grow it at the moment I haven't actually had the length cut in over a 8 months. I just get my fringe trimmed every few weeks.
My bob with original purple stripe

Do you go to the same stylist each time, try someone new, go to the cheap hair cutting chains or live it up in a salon?
Again it depends on what I am having done. For my proper hair styling and when I have a specific cut, like my bob, then I go to a regular hair dressers called Adam and Eve in Cardiff, and I only ever have the same stylist (Yana) to do my hair, but as I have been growing it I haven't been in over a year (she was very shocked when she spotted me in the street, with such long hair!)
When I just need a trim I have my old hair dresser at home to do it. Liz is a mobile hair dresser and one of my mothers best friends and has been trimming and cutting my hair since I was little.
Then a blue stripe, you can just about see

Do you color your hair? How often? What’s your natural colour?
What I currently have at the moment is my natural colour as I haven't coloured it in a very long time. But I used to have a brightly coloured stripe in it before I started blogging. I really miss the fun colours I had though uni and am wanting to go back to them.
Then a perm, not a great idea! But I did love to brush it out and get this pouffy 1980's style hair!

The one thing you always do to keep your hair looking great is:
I actually do very little to my hair in terms of treating it. I just wash it daily (or every other day) and I will comb a small amount of conditioner through it if I feel it is getting a little dry, but I only do that every 2 or 3 weeks really. I don't even treat it when I straighten it, which I know is bad, but I didn't even own a straightener until I was 19 and I have barely used one in the last 2 years since I grew out my bob.
This is my simple straight hair now, although this photo makes it look really dark for some reason

What hair trend do you love and wish you could rock?
Beachy waves, and messily wavy tousled hair. My hair is so pin straight naturally that it just doesn't take curls or waves at all!

So there you have it, my boring hair routines!

Last day for my giveaway!

Morning Ladies, sorry I have been MIA for a few days, (bloody irish rugby matchs!) I have been working, working, working in the pub. So I still don't have a nice post for you sadly but I just thought I would check in and say today is the last day to enter my Alex Keller sponsored giveaway.
Just click here and get your entries in and you could be winning a $25 voucher for her store.
The giveaway ends tonight at midnight and I will be announcing the winner on Wednesday, My Birthday! I will be turning 24 this year! And I get to go shopping with my mum and sister to buy my birthday presents. Which means I actually get to shop, but it does not count against my shopping ban as I shall not be spending any of my own money and it is my birthday present.

Anyway enough rambling, I need sleep! (It's 3.40am as I have been working tonight and every day since last wednesday...1 more day and I get 2 days off for my birthday! phew!)

Friend Friday: Blog Pet Peeves!

It's Friday again! Sadly it is also a majorly busy weekend for me as the Heineken Cup final is on on Saturday and all the Irish will be down as of today, so I shall be busy busy busy and very tired by the end of it.

But I will tell you now, hopefully next week I shall have some big news for you, if everything goes to plan.

So on to todays Friend Friday post. This weeks topic is Blog Pet Peeves (how fun!). As always find everyone else's post over on Modly Chic.
I am going to make this quick and brief as I would like to get to bed so I can be up early in the morn for a long days work (I write my posts the night before just so you know)

So my 5 top blog pet peeves:

1. Music!! - My God I hate it. If you want to put music on your blog do not have it on auto play it drives most people mad! And it often makes me jump out of my skin as I am not expecting it.

2. Blogs that take ages to load because the writer has a fussy background and a million widgets (half of which are un-needed). I just wont bother waiting for it and I'll click off them. Oh and on the same thread I hate blogs that have silly fonts or silly colours, which are hard to read or even see. There is one in particular (I shall not name) that has a funny squiggly font and in an almost neon pink colour. I swear my eyes blur over just trying to read one line.

3. Random google ads all over the place. If you have genuine sponsors that is awesome, but I hate google ads which just advertise random things. Plus some blogs have them across the top, down the side and in between each post, it's just silly.

4. Blogs that just post a load of picture editorials or catwalk images in every post. That is interesting every now and again (I do it sometimes!) but if that is all you post, it gets boring and it's totally uncreative! Get some decent content and write something interesting.

5. Writers that steal other peoples content - DONT DO IT!! It's wrong, it's plagiarism, it's stealing! Most bloggers are happy to allow use of pictures and even certain content if you just ask permission!

I've realised that I could probably list another 5 peeves if I was allowed to ("follow me" comments!! Argh!!!), as this has kinda started some burning vent inside me, lol. But I shall be nice!

What are your pet peeves?
Actually is there anything up with my blog that annoys you, or that I could change to make it better?

Westwood Wednesday - She does it for the rainforest!

Dame Vivienne Westwood and Marie Claire have joined forces, to launch an exciting global project that both drives awareness of deforestation and influences the current trend of up-cycling your clothes.

Vivienne Westwood has designed a limited edition T-shirt dress exclusively for Marie Claire international readers. All proceeds from the sale of the T-shirt dress will support the forest tribes in Bangladesh, whose lives and livelihoods have been endangered by deforestation.

This global collaboration will combine the sale of the T-shirt dress with a special Rainforest editorial section (Guest Editor, Vivienne Westwood), which will be published in the Marie Claire May 2011 edition. To produce and sell the T-shirt dress online Marie Claire and Vivienne Westwood have partnered with the Fair Trade organisation People Tree. People Tree only uses 100% organic fair trade cotton and all their clothes are made entirely by hand, helping to create livelihoods for disadvantaged groups in Bangladesh, India and Nepal.

Buy this Vivienne Westwood Limited Edition T-shirt dress for only £28 from www.peopletree.co.uk and £7 from each sale will help support Forest Tribes

I'm a little unsure about the hemline but I love the print on it.

I want - A Vivien of Holloway Dress

I seriously would love a Vivien of Holloway dress and these two are my favourite at the moment. They are just so so pretty and such a perfect style. I think I may have to save and treat myself to one when my shopping ban is finally over (just 7 months left!)

Which style is your favourite? Why not check out all the other fabrics here.
Lots are currently on sale for £45 instead of £69

Friend Friday: Outside Influences

It's Friday again! And that means just one thing...Friend Friday. This week we are discussing our influences outside blogging, and I think this is a really great set of questions. It is going to be so fun and informative reading everyone else's posts.
So on to my answers

1. What magazines do you subscribe to?
Well I have 2 subscriptions at the moment. One with Marie Claire magazine which was my christmas gift from my in-laws and one with Company magazine which I bought with my Tesco clubcard points. But I also read Glamour, Look, ID, Vouge, Elle, Harpers Bazaar and practically anything else I can get my hands on! I am a magazine monster! But it is my life, lol!

2. Do you watch any fashion TV shows?
Does America's Next Top Model count? And I love Project Runway/Catwalk but I have missed the last 2 series as I wasn't able to get it! Boo!! I used to watch the Clothes Show years ago too

3. Beyond blogs, what websites do you frequent for fashion inspiration?
Umm well just the usual shops really, and Polyvore for outfit combinations. Plus Chictopia occasionally, but I find blogs better than Chictopia.

4. Advertisements play a huge role in forming public opinion about a product or brand… what ads do you like and why?
On the clothing front I think M&S have made a great set of adverts that have really revived them as a place to buy great modern clothes for all ages

But if we are just talking about great ads then Evian's dancing babies! It is just so ridiculously cute.

Lynx Even Angles Will Fall is a classic and brilliant idea, and beautifully done

Beetles Black Betty ad is a fav at the mo! as I think the graphics are fun

Plus Guinness has been turning out beautiful adverts for the last year. Just so clever

But my mum will kill me if I don't feature Harvey! I believe this won the best advert of the year in the advertising awards this year.

5. Do you own any fashion books?
Oh heck lots! I own a few fashion encyclopaedia and history books. Vivienne Westwoods book, a Manolo Blahnik book, a few sewing ones, Coco Chanel's autobiography, Sample, the fashion bible, It's Vintage darling, the cheap dates guide to style, and a few fictional books about vintage clothing. Plus there are probably some more stashed somewhere!

So there you go, all my outside fashion influences! What are some of your influences?
Do you have any books to recommend?

First sponsor and a Giveaway

Hello Ladies today I have one whammy of a post for you.

First of all, if you have visited my blog over the last 2 days you will have noticed a new button in my side bar, under 'Sponsors'. This is my first blog sponsor (yay!), and I am very happy and proud to be working with the wonderfully talented Alex Keller!

Plus she has been nice enough to offer one of you lucky readers a $25 voucher to spend at her store.

First though she answered a few of my questions so you ladies could get to know her a bit better.

What's your name and where do you come from?
Alexandra Keller, but I go by Alex originally from Cleveland, Ohio, now living in Tucson, Arizona
Vintage Glamour $39

Tell us a bit about the real you?
I'm an artist who can be a little obsessive compulsive - I tend to collect lots of things and then I have to clean everything out. This year is a cleaning year!
Little Bits $18

How long have you been making your designs?
I've made jewelry on and off for years, but opened my Etsy shop March 2009
Crystal Clear $35

What are your favourite materials to work with? And where do you source your materials?
I love all sorts of beads and charms, but I'm always looking for more chain! I go to thrift stores, church shops, and resale shops. Sometimes I get donations, which is great! I don't usually go to garage sales or estate sales, because I have a 5 year old son & that's torture for him. On occasion, I'll go to a salvage yard.
Chained One $20

Of all your items which is your favourite?
My 'crystal clear' bracelets - recycled watch bands with vintage chandelier crystals. I wear mine almost every day

Where do you get your inspiration from?
Fashion magazines, places I shop, jewellry I see other people wearing
Trio-Noir $30

Did this start as a hobby or do you have any formal training?
Previously a hobby, when I opened my etsy shop in 2009, I started a business. I don't have formal jewelry training, but I did attend an art school for several years. While I had enough courses for a degree in fine art, I didn't have the right ones, so I ended up with a degree in business and marketing. (I was double majoring)

Do you have any favourite Etsy shops you buy from?
Shops I've gone back to more than once are

Mudpuppy - I have a baby head planter, a miner's skull (the gold tooth is great!) and I have a couple of little dogs he used to have. Next up are those hanging airplant pods!

Solsticehome - I have a lovely picnic basket, and recently won a gift certificate, so I'm expecting some vintage lab glassware!

Then there's
Boylerpf for fabulous vintage jewellry

And
Prance and Swagger for vintage clothes

I love new clothes from
Lamixx, and I heart Norwegian wood. And I'm going back here very soon Urban Revisions. Plus you have to see the gorgeous dresses from Kate Towers (I have 2 little party dresses - wish I had known about her sooner)

What can I say? I'm addicted to etsy!

What is your favourite style for this summer?
I'm loving the boho peasant look - gauzy, embroidered blouses and floral skirts. It gets super hot in arizona, so it's perfect!
Knocker $44

Whats your dream/plans for the rest of 2011?
To make it a fun, happy & safe year for my family (and survive summer break with the son!)

What's your favourite flower?
Not really sure - not a real flower type of girl..... I had white roses at my wedding.

Onto the giveaway bit!
The winner will be chosen at random and will receive a $25 gift voucher to spend on anything in Alex Keller's store.

Mandatory entry:
You must be a follower of my blog via google friend connect

Inspiration Monday

Morning Ladies. This weekend has been an exciting one for me.
First off I got the whole weekend off! Yay!
There were reasons though: I did a 7 mile midnight sleep walk (in a thunder storm!!) to help raise money for Ty Hafan, a children's hospital in cardiff, which cares for children with terminal illnesses.
I am still collecting sponsors and would love it if a few of my readers would donated to this amazing cause. Just click here to donate, every penny helps.
Photos to come.

Plus this weekend was a rather important one for Jon and me. Shall I give you a hint?
Yep this weekend (Sunday 8th May) marked our 1 year anniversary!! It has gone so so fast! I almost can't believe it. So Jon and I were home with our parents this weekend, and just spent it celebrating with Friends and Family. It was lovely.
As 1 year in the UK is traditionally paper I bought Jon tickets to Jimmy Carr and he bought me a voucher for a hour long Thai Back Massage (yum!)

Right on to today's real post. It's inspiration Monday and I am able to participate this week (after missing the last 2 due to being too busy)
As usual Megan and Nora set us all a celebrity outfit picture to be 'inspired' by: this week was a chilled look by Nicole Richie
I didn't have anything like that dress, so I had to wing it with my only mini dress. Plus sadly it isn't warm enough here at the moment to go bare legged, so I donned a pair of leggings to make it more weather suitable!
Dress: Topshop
Jacket: Levi
Leggings: Primark
Shoes: Peacocks
Bag: Unbranded
Sun glasses: Unbranded
Bracelet: Topshop
Necklace: Tiffany and Co

To see all the other ladies outfits just go to Two Birds Blog.
