What this year brought, what next year will bring

Ok so I thought I would do a run down of what this year has brought for me and what next year, I hope, will bring (and my resolutions!) Got in a few pics too to make this more fun for you all. So here goes:
  • I got a perm (and grew it out again!)
  • I went to my 3rd SSAGO (Student Scout and Guide Organisation) Ball
  • My little sis turned 18!!
  • I went to Canada for the 3rd time, and got some amazing photos!
  • I saw Tom Jones for the 4th time! And he is still as amazing as ever!
  • I got my degree in Cultural Criticism, Journalism, Film and Media
  • I got my name in credits for the first time, see here
  • We started to plan our wedding, and have gotten most of the organizing done!
  • I started my blog, Yay! And have made some awesome new friends!
  • I sadly lost my Nanna
  • I ran the race for life for the 3rd time and got to meet Joanna Page!
  • And I have been bought 3 dream items of electrical equipment. My new camera, my apple mac pro laptop and my new sewing machine (what more could I want!)

So what is 2010 going to bring for me, and what are my new years resolutions.
  • Me and Jon will get married in May and will hopefully take a long weekend break to somewhere in Europe before our real honeymoon in China the year after
  • I will hopefully be opening an Etsy store
  • I will drop a dress size before the wedding!
  • I will buy more vintage dresses and learn to make my own!
  • I will learn how to use my new camera and use photoshop
  • I will not be working in the pub because I will have found a proper job!!
  • I will visit all my uni friends
  • I will take up a dance class
And most importantly
  • I will continue to blog!! And plan more clothing swaps and competitions with/for my followers.
So what are your new years resolutions? Anything outrageous or exciting?
Any one else getting married? Would love to hear from a fellow bride on how their planning is going.

Thats all for now. Have a good night tonight! Think of me slogging away in work while your all having a drink (actually have one for me while your at it, that way I can technically have about 100! lol)

Remember that vintage dress??

Do you remember that vintage dress I posted about a month ago, the one that needed shortening? Well it got shortened, and I was able to wear it over Christmas so here are the pics. Im really pleased with how it looks now, and was overjoyed when I found a pair of genuine vintage Mary Quant tights in my stocking!! I knew they would work so well with the dress.
Dress: Vintage
Belt: Borrowed from sis
Tights Vintage Mary Quant
Necklace: beads from Primark, brooch on necklace Vintage
Shoes: Jasper Conran (I know I have worn them in all 3 of my last outfits, but it was icy and I didn't want to go flying in heels!!)

Kept warm with my wonderful Afghan coat from Kit Clothing and Trilby from Primark (I love Trilbies!!)
Plus my new bag I had for Christmas, from a random stand in the middle of a shopping center, so my mother informs me!

So today was about a little bit of shopping and working in the pub (although I got to finish early as we were really quiet). I went to Primark to pick up some stuff for the swap I am doing with Patty Ann and some stuff for crafting/selling. (If you fancy doing a clothes swap with me, just drop me and email to daisymay_chantele at hotmail.com) It was busy there but no busier than usual really, but I managed to get some really cute bows to craft with and some really nice stuff in the sale. I called into Waterstones to spend the voucher I had for Christmas. I wanted the Twiggy book but it is all out of stock, so I am going to wait a little and see if it comes down in price before ordering it.

So who is looking forward to tomorrow night? What is everyones plans? As you have probably guessed I shall be working, but at least I get New Years Day off, and we get loads of free drinks after work, so I don't mind too much. Then from Sunday I have a whole blissful week off. Yay! It shall be spent reading, watching DVD's we got for xmas, playing with my sewing machine, finishing wedding invitations, making some jewellery and possibly working on launching an etsy/blog shop.

Now some news, I have at least 4 competitions lined up for next year all ready. The first will be starting on New Years Day, so remember to check back then to see what wonderful prizes I have for you all to win! You won't be disappointed, I promise!

Good Night!

Blogger of the Week

Ok so I haven't done a blogger of the week post for ages! So here is one of my favourite bloggers of the moment and a daily read I always look forward to. This is the inspirational MJ from 'Dreaming Spires and Old Car Tyres'. She was kind enough to answer my questions so here are her answers and pictures of her 3 favourite outfit.

Name, age and current location.
I'm MJ, I'm 19 and I'm currently at home for the Christmas holidays in Hull, England. I usually live in Oxford, England where I go to university.

Describe yourself in one sentence?
Noisy geologist, likes drinking real ales, reading big books and cutting up her clothes (with usually disastrous results!)

Explain why you named you blog 'Dreaming Spires and Old Car Tyres'?
I originally called my blog this because I thought it was an interesting contrast between the really posh, beautiful place I lived in term-time (under the dreaming spires of Oxford) and my more urban, often quite rough home city (where I used to live, there was an abandoned car tyre at the end of our street for about three years). Also, it rhymes and I like rhymes!

How long have you been blogging and why did you take it up?
I started blogging in June after splitting up with my boyfriend of a year. He'd always gone on about how fashion was frivolous and superficial and teased me for reading a lot of fashion blogs and magazines, saying it detracted from how intelligent I appeared. When we broke up, I thought 'well f--k you, I'll prove that you can be smart AND look good, too' and all the wonderful bloggers I've met over the past 6 months or so have proved it!

How would you describe your style?
I'd like to think it's reasonably edgy and tough - although I recently bought a floral print dress (scary!), most of my clothes are monochrome with a lot of leather, lace and fringing.

What's your favourite part about blogging?
I think my favourite part is the sense of connectedness I get from it. Blogging is a community I'm proud to be a part of, where people look out for each other, and I get to meet the most fascinating people from all over the world!

Where is your favourite place to shop?
I'm pretty much broke (student lifestyle!) so I spend most of my money in Primark or the sale rails at Topshop. Although if there's something I want and I can't afford it (like my recent furry gilet) I'll just pop down to the haberdashery and make it myself!

You do some amazing DIY, stuff where do you get your inspiration and which is your favourite piece so far?
My inspiration is born of necessity - I want things, but I can't afford them. I spend a lot of time looking at blogs and I often see things that are obviously designer and go: I could totally do that for cheaper! I think my current favourite piece is my draped furry gilet, but my cut-out leggings have got me the most compliments!

What's your most prized possession?
Probably either my sewing machine, Archimedes, or my rock hammer. They are essential to both of my lifelong passions, fashion and geology, and I don't think I could live without either!

What's your favourite flower?
My mum has always loved freesias, so whenever I see them it makes me think of her! My favourites are the red ones.

As you can see MJ is awesomely fun and creative. Go check out her blog, here to see more of her styling and DIY projects!

Outfit post later tonight!

I thought I should introduce my baby!

Well this is my boxing day outfit, a little late I know, but just haven't had the time to post it till now! Im wearing some more new Christmas presents, the dress, jewellery and shoes. We just went to the pub to meet some old college mates (slightly weird because we haven't seen some of them for years, but most of them haven't changed at all). I put on my nice new coat again too!
Dress: Topshop
Top (under dress): Tommy Hilfiger
Footless Tights: Random
Jewellery: Unknown gift
Shoes: Jasper Conran
Hairband: Bought in Canada

And this everybody is my baby! Tipsy! She was a 21st birthday present off my honey, but I thought I should introduce her as I don't think I have posted a picture of her before. She is a cross dutch breed. But she is blind in one eye so keeps her head wonky, so her good eye is always facing up for her to see better. But its really cute now that we are used to it! She is nearly 2 and has a filthy temper, which everyone thinks is really funny. I mean have you ever heard a rabbit grunt and bark (literally) because she does when she is annoyed at you. She has such a character!

Anyway that is my baby and my boxing day outfit. How was your boxing day? Fun? Oh did you get snow? We had a little xmas eve but are forecast some for tonight and tomorrow so that will be fun (read sarcasm!).

Had to go back to work tonight in the pub and so did not want to be there after 3 very nice days off. But looking forward to the week me and the other half have booked off! Yay! Its just 5 shifts away!

Sorry about the first 2 pics being a bit bright, Jon hasn't worked out how to properly work the new camera yet! And then he will have to teach me! lol!
I have been having a bit of a career crisis recently. I hate the pub at the mo (as you have all probably guessed!) but I'm really not that keen to work in retail either. I would love to start my own online store selling vintage and hand made stuff, but is there really a big enough market for it? I have a degree in Journalism but am only really interested in TV production, which at the moment there are no jobs available in (believe me I have looked) unless we move to London, which we don't really want to do yet. So I want to go back to college and Finish my Photography A-level and do a textiles one too, what do you think? We can't afford for me to do it at the mo, but hopefully when september comes around again we will be able to. Should I just go for it?

Anyway that was all a bit deep wasn't it? Sorry.
Hope you all still having a great Christmas time, and end to 2009!

p.s. will finish alphabet city posts when I have my holiday from work

Christmas outfit

Well how did boxing day go for everyone? We had a chilled day, a bit of visiting and friends coming round, a little bit of shopping in the comet sale (mainly my other half!!) then down to the spoons in town for a few drinkies.
This is my christmas day outfit! And for those of you who read my post a few days ago, the coat I am wearing is the one that I mentioned, that was in the parcel under my black and white shoes. It was one of my presents off my other half this christmas and I love it so much!! I think my whole outfit is new christmas presents!
Dress: Primark
Jumper (under dress): unknown
Jacket: George at ASDA
Tights: Pretty Polly
Shoes: Jasper Conran
Necklace: Handmade by me

Todays shopping trip was very exciting actually. We went to get a new blue ray player (he said something about the playstation not playing 7.1 surround sound, but I zone out when he talks electricals!) So we got the player but he then spotted a mega deal on a Sony Digital SLR!!!!!! He knows I have been after one for ages but I have never been able to afford one, so after a little think (about a minute) he decided to buy it for us. Yay!! So my photos in the future should be of a slightly better quality, or at least they will be once I work out how to use it properly. I am so so happy and excited about it all because I love photography but have only ever had a regular digital (not that they aren't great but I really wanted an SLR!).

Christmas also brought with it the one big present I was dying for... a sewing machine! Yay again! So once I have figured that out as well I shall be attempting some of the DIY's I have found on the blogsphere. As well as buying some of the vintage patterns I have been fancying.
I also got some other lovely clothes which you will no doubt see on here soon. And lots of DVD's and CD's.

What did you all get? Anything really excited?

Hope you all had a lovely xmas and are looking forward to the new year.
Any New Years resolutions worked out yet?

No energy to think of a title!

Hello ladies, I am going to have to finish my alphabet city posts after xmas I fear. I am working ridiculous shift at the mo. Did a 2pm-1.15am today and have a 12pm-1am(ish) tomorrow then a 12pm-7pm on Christmas Eve, so unless I give up sleeping there is no way I am going to get everything done before Christmas Day. I have yet to wrap any presents (although I am mega organised when buying them, I'm not always so organised at the end!) as we have run out of cello-tape! And I am so tired when I finish work that there is no chance I will manage to wrap any of the presents, so I will have to cram them all of Christmas Eve, when me and Jon finally get home to my parents.

Everybody excited about Christmas yet? I'm still not quite there. I'm not usually very excitable anyway, but I think this year I am even less so because of the work load and everything. I'll probably get the excitement bug at midnight mass!! And then not be able to sleep for all the excitement like a little child! lol!

Oh I am more or less back to a decent level of health! Throat is still sore in the mornings and evenings, and Im still sneezing lots (but thats quite normal for me) but I am feeling lots better than I was. So thanks to all of you who left get well messages, they obviously worked!

I hope you have all entered my competitions as they are ending really soon!!
Find one here and one here. The prizes are really great so you don't want to miss out! Plus as they are going so well I have lined up a few for the new year, wait till you see some of the prizes they are awesome.

On another note, what do you think of my new blog background? I finally worked out how to change it and voila! I just need a new header now!

Thats all for tonight I think. I may not manage to blog tomorrow night as we have to pack the car after work so it is ready to go home, and so we don't have to do it before work on xmas eve! My God hasn't christmas come fast! Its truly shocking and scary that the whole year has disappeared! Plus it means my wedding is getting ever closer! arghh! I am excited about that though, although it means I have lots of invitation DIY-ing to do!

Anyway Night night
Merry Christmas (in case I don't get time to blog before then)

Still sick so an outfit from earlier in the week.

Right first off, a sad note: Brittany Murphy died this morning of a cardiac arrest at only 32 years old. I really liked her as an actress so I really am a little shocked because she was so young. She was brilliant in 8 mile and I loved her in Uptown Girls with Dakota Fanning.
Right now onto more cheery things. As I have been ill and am still ill, (voice is back a little but not a lot! although I think I am well enough to go back to work in the pub with some sign language skills to get across the price of drinks and such) I have no interesting outfits from this week. I ventured out only once, to get my antibiotics, and the outfit from that day was not good! It consisted of jeans (off bedroom floor), a baggy t-shirt, my uni hoodie (with hood up!) and my big jacket thrown over the whole lot. I probably looked like a homeless person or a bag lady but at the time I did not care, I was sick! Anywhoo because I have nothing from this week but I did promise you an outfit, I have one from earlier in the week when I went out for cocktails with the girls!

Dress (worn as top): George at Asda (picked up at the Cardiff Clothes Swap event)
Skirt: Peacocks
Belt: Peacocks
Blue tights: Primark
Black floral tights: TKMaxx
Shoes: New Look (new!!)
Beads: Vintage
Hair clips: Primark
Look at my nice new shoe, aren't they pretty. I got them from New Look when I returned an item and got them for only £10 (due to a £10 off all shoes sale!). I have never had a pair like this before but felt inspired after seeing so many other bloggers wearing this style. So started my hunt for a yummy pair, it took me 2 weeks but i finally found these and am very pleased with them. And see the present I have them neatly leaning on, that is my new and stunning purple wool coat from my other half! Although I know what it is (as I picked it and have tried it on) he said I can't have it till xmas day, but I shall take a pic of it then for you all.

Lastly here are my xmas decs.
First our tree! (and some of our books and DVD collection)
With its blue lights on (I didn't want blue lights, but when we first moved in, we were broke and just got the cheapest we could find, but I have learnt to love them)
My decoration bargain for this year, this cutie was only £5 instead of £14 from a little homeware store down the bay.
My moose couple from canada, aren't they cute! They stay out all year though!
Perspex Raindeer also from Canada (they were my gran's but when she died I got them coz I'm the only one who liked them!)
These 2 have been with us since our first xmas and used to stand either side of the stereo but Jon decided to move it this year.
Hope you liked my decs, I have a few pics of my favourite tree decorations but shall bring them to you another time as this post is already really long. But it's like 1.30am and I'm not tired because we didn't get up till like 3pm!! Hence the long post. Anyway starting to ramble so will wish you all a good night! And hopefully I will get the rest of the alphabet city posts done this week before xmas day.

Oh and don't forget to enter my 2 giveaways, links are over on the right --> at the top, you don't want to miss out on these great prizes!

Lost my voice and more alphabet city!

Hello all I am sick, very sick! I had a bad cough last week and the doctor said it was just a little virus that would clear up with a bit of cough mixture. Yesterday I woke up with a sore and raspy throat, but I dealt with it and went to work as usual in the pub, which was difficult as my voice faded in and out of its own accord making talking to customers increasingly difficult. But today I woke up with no voice at all just a squeaky whisper, my throat is raw and painful, my lungs and throat are full of horrid gunk, so I think it is safe to say that the little virus has flourished into full fledged chest/throat infection. Luckily the doctor gave me a back up prescription of antibiotics incase this happened, so Im hoping my honey will venture out tomorrow morning and get them for me while I stay curled up in my cwtchy bed. Alas I cannot go to work, and on Black Friday too, I'm so sad about this *hear heavy sarcasm* I am missing the most chaotic/busiest day of the year. Anywhoo that has at least given me the time to catch on on everyones blog and get some more of my alphabet city post done. So here are a few more letters to make up for the great lack of posts over the last few days.

T is for Twiggy

She needs no introduction, she is the iconic Twiggy!

Or see her in the M&S TV ads here.

U is for Umbrella

In our current weather situation (and generally all year round in the UK) we need a good old brolly, but who says we can't have a stylish one! Here are a few I like.

Who wouldn't want a bit of blue sky on a rainy day, find it on Amazon

Laura Ashley (this just has an oriental vibe!)
River Island (not a pink fan but love this one)

John Lewis (but they are also available loads of other places)
Random online kids store (can't remember name) isn't it just so sweet!

Plus I found this absolutely stunning one in work and luckily nobody came to claim it so now its all mine, hehe! It has a pretty flower pattern in the fabric and a lace edge, plus a cute tassle on the pole and a really sweet thin handle (sorry the pics aren't that great, hard to take a good shot).

Don't forget to enter my 2 giveaways.
