Sunday Inspiration

There isn't really much of a theme this week. These are all just photos which I have found over the last week or so. The first lot are 70's kinda themed but the rest are random.
Enjoy!!

And a little music that I'm digging this week!

What do you think? She kinda reminds me of a darker Florence Welsh.

p.s. I am doing Kendi Everydays 30 for 30 this Feb but sadly will be starting late as I am super busy over the next few days, but bear with me as I will get on top of it soon.

Friend Friday: The technical stuff

I'm on the ball this week, so here is this weeks Friend Friday post. This week we are discussing the technical equipment us fashion bloggers use behind the scenes of our blogs. As usually for all the other participants answers just nip on over to Modly Chic. So on with the questions.

1. What technology do you use in blogging? (computer, camera, video camera, tripod, etc...)
Ok so I use an Apple MacBook Pro computer for all my blogging and writing work. I have had the Apple for 18months and could not live without it. It is my life line these days.
Ok so on the camera front, well that's Jon's domain really as he is the camera fanatic so here is the equipment we use.
Camera: Sony a200 with battery grip
Lens: Tamero 18-200mm, Sony sal 15mm F1.8
Flash: Sony hvl 42
Tripod: Velbon Carbon Fibre 167cm

2. What computer and online technology do you use? (blogging system, photo storage, photo editing tools, etc..)
I use Blogger as I just find it nice and easy, but I believe I use the old model. I tried updating to the new templates version and absolutely hated it! I found it very difficult to alter my html and I couldn't customise it in the way I wanted too. Plus it changed all my post settings, god I had such a tantrum when it went awol, some of you may remember my blog looking all wack for a a few days while I figured it out. So thats my blogging system. I only use the photo storage that comes with blogger at the moment, and I do very little photo editing. I only use iphoto and the odd bit of aperture 3
I am also using a new programme called Dress Assistant which is a new app for the Mac that I shall be reviewing some time this week, it helps you organise your wardrobe on your computer and make outfits.

3. What is your process for taking pictures?
Hmm, I don't think I have a process, lol. If it's just a casual shot or an everyday one then I usually just yell at Jon to take a quick photo for me probably as I am trying to leave the flat. If we have decided to go out for a photo shoot, which we enjoy doing, then there is a bit more preparation. We tend to decide on our location before hand (or the general whereabouts), then when there we chose our spot, usually we look for something interesting to take photos around. Jon sets up his tripod at the right hight, then takes a few test shots, to judge all the technical stuff (aperture, focus, lighting etc), and we snap away. Thats it really when taking shots. When we get back we upload them all onto the computer, delete all the ones I hate (which is usually half of them). Jon sometimes adjusts the colours and other stuff using aperture to get the picture a little clearer or change the lighting. Then I crop the images I want to use, and that's it.
4. When it comes to backdrops for your photos what do you consider? Do you scout locations or shoot the same spot daily?
I kinda answered that above but I shall focus my answer here. I do take normal everyday shots in my flat usually just in front of my front door as it's a plain simple background, or in my study if I am taking photos of myself as it is the only space long enough to take full length photos on the tripod.
If I am doing an outdoor shoot with Jon we try to think of a location with interesting features. And try to use different ones every time, although we are running out of places we can easily get to in Cardiff. I generally like places where there aren't gonna be loads of people, because I would get conscious taking photos in front of them (although this plan doesn't always work!) And I sometimes try to match the outfit to the location or sometimes do the complete opposite and pair an outfit with a location where it looks out of place so the outfit looks more striking in the image.
My front door backdrop! My regular readers will know this one well, lol.
Juxtaposing my outfit against my setting, girly/industrial

After Jon has warmed up the picture

5. If you could splurge and get one new piece of equipment what would you be buying?
Hubby says Nikon D3X, I just fancy a back drop set with maybe some big flash lights like a professional studio. Plus my answer is cheaper! lol.

So what equipment do you use? Any special tricks or tips you care to share?

The Shopping Forecast

Well today ladies I am bringing you something a bit different. Have you heard of The Shopping Forecast? No, well let me explain. The site chooses some of the chicest items currently on the market or catwalk and puts them up on the site for the public to vote on. Each month they have winning set of items dependent on our votes. You can also put together outfits and comment on other peoples outfits. Its a great new social network for stylish girls.

Plus once a month one member is chosen at random to win a £200 gift card for the site. Meaning you can chose any items from the site up to the value of £200. Guess who won the November one?? Me!!! Yay. I have been waiting to show you all my items for a few weeks until the site was all updated. So I chose
This pretty Republic Snood
And this stunning Desigual Coat

Both my items turned up within a week of my choosing them and they are amazing and stunning.
So why not sign up yourself for your chance to win. Its quick and easy, just click the link below and fill in your details and get voting.
Plus there is now a points scheme in place. The 4 people who get the most points by the end of the season on May 1st will be able to convert their points into items from the site, upto £250. Who doesn't love free clothes!

Everybody, Everywear - Breton Stripes

So today is the official start (or my official start) of the Everybody, Everywear site. The idea is that each month a different item of clothing will be chosen and all the participating bloggers will style the outfit and submit their photos to the site. That way everyone will be able to see the different ways you can style a specific item.
So this month, Breton stripes were chosen. At first I drew a bit of a blank, because I wasn't actually sure I owned any Breton stripes, but I eventually spied this cardigan while I was clearing out my jumper box this week. So, here is my styling of breton stripes.
Cardigan: Fashion Union
T-shirt: Tommy Hilfiger
Trousers: Tommy Hilfiger
Necklace and Bangles: Vintage
So you may notice, no shoes! Lol I didn't actually leave the flat in this outfit, it was for a loungy day before I went to work. I apologise for the lack of make-up, I didn't notice how pale my face looked today.

And a bit of music for you. I wanted to post the official video, which you can find here, but it is blocked for embeding so here is a live version instead!

Willow Smith..She's 10...10!!!
Awesome!

Sunday Inspiration

All I want this week is a simple organised and tidy closet, so here is some inspiration to get clearing!!

Don't they all look wonderful and I bet we all aspire to having something equally organised. Well over the next few weeks I shall be decluttering and organising my closet, this is a very slow and arduous task! The main problems being: 1)I hate throwing anything out! 2)I am physically out of any more space to keep clothes 3)I do not actually own a proper closet!
We have only 1 small fitted wardrobe in the bed room and 1 in the study. The study one is full of outerwear (mainly my coats and jackets). The bedroom one is half full of my dresses and half jons suits and shirts. The rest of our clothes are crammed in 3 huge chest of draws, 2 plastic stackable boxes and 5 under-bed draws, yet that is still not enough, which is totally ridiculous so I think it is about time I got ruthless with my closet and got rid of lots of it, because I clearly can't wear it all.
I started small with my underwear draws, and even that shocked me when I managed to throw a whole carrier bag full out!! Then my shoes, which wasn't too bad just 2 pairs of scruffy pumps and a few sandals that I never wear coz they hurt my feet (why do we hang onto these if we know they hurt us, it's silly). But next I shall be tackling my jumper box. I know there are about 10 hoodies in there which I haven't worn since I finished uni so I think most of them will be on ebay next week, lol.

Hope this inspires you to have a clear out too

Vogue Patterns Inspiration

Well seeing as my Sunday inspiration this week was to do with pattern mixing and the stunning Vogue Patterns Shoot, I thought I should try out some pattern mixing of my own and try to do my own version of the Vogue shoot (not sure I like the photos that much though? What do you think, honestly?)
Majorly manic carpet: O'Neills!
Jacket: Silk Trader, China
Dress: New Look via Cardiff clothes swap
Top: F+F Tesco
Boots: Unknown
Belt: Matalan (off another dress)
Bag: China
Necklace + bracelet: China
Ring: Vintage via my aunt
Tights: Random (probably primark)

This is my silk jacket I bought in China, the only piece of clothing I bought actually!! It is made of pure silk and the fabrics was all hand made in the factor we went to. It is really stunning quality. I didn't go for a colour that was too bright as I thought I would get more wear out of the black and silver one, although I did try on a red one and a turquoise one too.
The bag also came from China and is a traditionally embroidered bag of one of the tribes (although I don't remember which one now)

Hope the start to your week was good, mine was fine, uninteresting. Just running some errands; post office, food shopping, library, the usual. But this week I am looking forward to a house party tonight and dinner with the rents and Jon's Aunt and Uncle on Thursday. You'll get some outfit photos from those hopefully. Anyone else got anything interesting planned for this week?
