Blogger of the Week

Sorry its late guys but this weekend has been manic!! Seriously! Match day was busy, long and tiring. Then driving to oxford on Sunday was fun with the road works on most of the motorway! Argh so never got a post in this weekend. Sorry! But it is lovely to be staying one of my besties and another of my bridesmaid!

Anywhoo! Here is last weeks Blogger of the week. The lovely Valencia from 'Roll up your sleeve'. She is a really awesome fun girl, with great fashion sense.

1. Name, age and current location.
My name is Valencia Lia Yip and I'm 19 this year. Ohhh, Valencia is my real name given to me by my parents and in my ID card. Ahaha because people do think its a name I gave myself. Living in the sunny island of Singapore.

2. Describe yourself in one sentence?
I'm fun loving, silly at times and I'm a great listener to your problems.

3. Explain why you named you blog 'Roll up your sleeve'?
Hmmm, there isn't really a real reason on my blog name. I actually wanted to use this name on my other blog site I did with my close friend. But we didn't use it in the end. So I took it under my wing and the blog was born.
4. How long have you been blogging and why did you take it up?
I've been blogging for 3months now I think. I actually have been reading lots of fashion blog for a long time now. But then I was just browsing through their daily style. And on day, it just dawn on me that I could go the same! That's when I knew I need to start blogging too.

5. How would you describe your style?
Surely a mix of vintage with a touch of modern vibe. You'll be able to find me in any kind of clothing. I love dresses, but I love my leggings and pants too! And huge lover of the 60s era too.
6. What's you favourite part about blogging?
The best thing so far is receiving such lovely comments and support everyday. I've never thought it would turn out to be like this. As well as the friends I've made now, its just really been amazing in all.

7. Where is your favourite place to shop?
Its either etsy or ebay. Sometimes some online vintage stores. I hardly shop in local/chain stores around here. So its online shopping I do a lot.
8. What's your top tip for anyone who wanted to start blogging.
Never ever give up!! Even at the start, you feel like no one is reading. Just hang on there, and all will just fall into place:)

9. What's your most prized possession?
This is a tough one. Hmmm, I guess it would have to be my vintage Valentino oversized black blazer. I bought it about a year or so back at a local vintage store. They were have clearance sales at that time, so I got it at a really good deal. Its so precious to me.
10. What's your favourite flower?
I'm a really big roses girl, but my favorite would have to be lavender. They smell so so nice.

(my computer won't let me upload photos!! On a weak connection as my friend hasn't got proper internet yet, so promise to upload photos when I get home. It also means I can't do my Alphabet city posts properly either so they will have to wait till I get home on Thursday, sorry guys! UPDATE: Managing to upload photos, as you can now see! lol! They are just really slow going up!)

As always pics are Valencia's fav outfits! I adore her vintage white dress, its amazing!

Alphabet city - L

L is for Louis Mariette

Ok so this is a kinda naughty one, I love his stuff, but love it so much more since my parents suprised me with one of his head pieces (for my wedding) that I had been fawning over for ages, after seeing it in one of the many wedding magazines I have been reading. He is a milliner and judge on Britain's Next Top Model. His stuff is simply stunning, see his whole collection here.

So let me explain. Since I have been engaged I was going to have a white bridal riding hat for the wedding, as hats were kinda my trademark whilst in my teens. So riding hat, bird cage veil and feathers, that was always the plan. That was until I found this piece! Then I was in love but at around £150 I thought it was a bit pricy just for a headband. I never thought I would have it so continued looking for the perfect hat (which by the way is impossible to find!) Then one day when I was out with mum she was all excited because she had a suprise for me and told me she had ordered me the dream headband! Yay! They are made to order so it took around 2 months for it to arrive but it is stunning and I am so so happy with it. The wedding has a very vintage feel to it, especially 1920's/1930's art deco inspiration. So it is totally perfect! Without further ado here it is!

And here are a few other pieces to whet your appetite!

I hope you like them as much as I do.
23 weeks to the wedding!

Alphabet city - K

I know I used a designer yesterday but I'm sorry I have had to use another today! But he is kinda majorly influential and important to the fashion world.

K is for Karl Lagerfeld
(in his trademark look, leather fingerless gloves, suit, black tie and some bling!)
Which I'm assuming would have been most peoples choices for the letter 'K'. He runs Chanel and Fendi and has a number of his own lines under his name (like I said a major figure in the fashion world).
Fendi, Spring 2010, Ready-to-Wear Collection
Chanel, Spring 2010, Ready-to-Wear Collection

Karl Largerfeld, Spring 2010, Read-to-Wear collection
Thats all for tonight Im off for a bumper cinema session with the other half. 2012 followed by Harry Brown! Fun, fun, fun!

Coffee break

I went out tonight with one of my best-ies and bridesmaid for Coffee at a funky arts cafe near our flat. Its called Milgi, I have never been there before even though I literally live 2 mins away and have lived here 3 and a half years, and boy have I been missing out. I had 2 very lovely lattes and a rose and pistachio cupcake all while listening to funky music and surrounded by vintage bits and artsy stuff it was great! I forgot to take a pic of my cupcake but I will be going back very soon so will take one then, but here is my cute miss-matched mug and saucer.
And here is the outfit I wore tonight. It is getting really cold over here now so I thought I would wear my nice big jumper my mum gave me last week.

And this is for if it gets really cold, I can wear my jumper as a balaclava, lol! The polo neck part is huge which I love coz it keeps my neck nice and warm.

Jumper: Off mum from Per Una at M&S
Skirt: Vintage from ebay
Tights: Random
Boots: Random worn day before yesterday
Trilby: TKMaxx
Beads: top one vintage from ebay, bottom one handmade by me
Then I threw one of my big furry collared coats on over the top and I was nice and snug.

Alphabet city - J

I had to have a good think about this one, but finally decided on this great designer. I usually love all his stuff, but this year I especially loved his cute floaty dresses. He went with a really neutral colour palette, of white's, cream's and a slightly off gold. They are so girly and cute. I have 3 favourites that I would totally die for.
J is for Jasper Conran
This is one of my favourites, all those tiny little flowers are so pretty.

This is another favourite, I love the cut outs at the top paired with the structured skirt.

Plus I love this one, with all the delicate little cut outs. I think it looks very christmasy. Don't they look like snowflakes that you used to cut out of paper when you were little?

Which is your favourite?
